It’s a Christmas week wedding fit for a king — well, a billionaire! Jeff Bezos is marrying his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, this week in Aspen, according to the Daily Mail, and the price tag is astonishing. But the news isn’t true and the Amazon founder is fighting back.
The media outlet shared that the nuptials are set to take place on Saturday, Dec. 28 in a weekend event set to cost a whopping $600 million. They reported that Kevin Costner was getting in on the romantic fun by loaning his 160-acre Dunbar Ranch for the ceremony, and he’s already been spotted in town with his kids.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (R) and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez arrive at the White House for a state dinner on April 10, 2024 in Washington, DC.
The outlet claimed that the A-list invite list was set to arrive the day after Christmas and they would be staying at the luxurious St. Regis Hotel. If that wasn’t good enough, Bezos supposedly rented out several estates in the area for his guests, according to the Daily Mail‘s source. There was also a pre-wedding celebration at celebrity hotspot, Matsuhisa, with a tasty sushi menu.

The whole event sounds fabulous, but it’s not true and Bezos made sure to slam the report on X. “This whole thing is completely false — none of this is happening. The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been,” he wrote. “Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible.”
There you have it, no lavish wedding for Bezos and Sánchez this week. Still, marriage is on the horizon for them. The wealthy couple has kept their wedding plans a secret even though Today‘s Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie tried to get Sánchez to spill some tea on her Nov. 20 visit to the show. The former news anchor seemed reluctant to discuss the details, but offered, “I have to say, I do have a Pinterest, I’m just like every other bride, so I do have a Pinterest board.”
Bezos admitted to Vogue in November 2023 that he was staying far away from the wedding plans. He joked, “Oh, God, no. Do I look that dumb?” The big day was about Sánchez’s vision, the Amazon founder is footing the bill and showing up to marry his bride.
The couple was quiet about their romance in the beginning because there was allegedly an overlap between their marriages. He was married to MacKenzie Scott for 26 years and Sánchez was with husband Patrick Whitesell for 14 years. The duo filed for divorce from their spouses in 2019, but it later came out that their reported affair began in the fall of 2018. After that public reveal, Bezos and Sánchez were not shy about flaunting their love on the beaches of St. Tropez and St. Barts.
