Daniel Radcliffe Opens Up About Emotionally Charged Time Apart from 1-Year-Old Son with Erin Darke
Uncovers ’emotionally charged’ time spent away from infant son, 1, with Erin Darke
The Tony Award winner is officially Daniel Radcliffe! For his role in the popular Merrily We Roll Along revival, the actor won the Best Featured Actor in a Musical award.
The 34-year-old talked to the media at the Tony Awards following his victory. He talked about how unique it felt to receive the prize on Father’s Day, with his own father present as well as as the father of his one-year-old son with his longterm partner Erin Darke.
While practicing for his performance with co-stars Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, he recalled getting a lot of nice notes about being a dad on the day of the event and referred to it as a “emotionally charged” day.
“It’s lovely, I honestly haven’t spent a lot of time with my son today, so I’m excited to see him tomorrow,” he exclaimed. “My dad’s here in the audience, and really he’s a huge part of all the music I’ve listened to.”
Subsequently, Daniel talked on how he “found myself as an actor” on Broadway after finishing Harry Potter, and how he came to adore New York City.
“I adore where I live now and can raise my child here. I’m really grateful to live in this city,” he said. He also praised his parents, the Merrily team, their 39-year-old daughter Erin, and their son, as well as an emotional Jonathan who was in the crowd.
After months of rehearsals and performances, the actor talked warmly about developing a “family” with his two co-leads in the production. He even joked that he was drawn to poetic plays with extraordinarily quick turnaround times, like his song “Franklin Shepard, Inc.”
