For the first time, Rihanna was heard in her eagerly awaited Smurfette role.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the first glimpse of the 36-year-old entrepreneur’s newest project, The Smurfs Movie, was unveiled on Tuesday at the Annecy Animation Festival. The mogul made an appearance at an event for the launch of Fenty Hair in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Presenting at the event was director Chris Miller, accompanied by president of Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation Ramsey Naito.

The weekly said that the pair had unveiled a demo of the original soundtrack and work-in-progress shots from the movie’s opening scene.

Devoted followers of Rihanna will be pleased to hear that the megastar will be penning, producing, and performing new original songs “that will help inform the spirit of the movie,” as the tabloid states. Fans have been waiting years for new music from the megastar.

The project is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025 of the following year, with Rihanna providing the voice of Smurfette.

In April 2023, Rihanna made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon Day Four in Las Vegas to announce she will voice Smurfette in the Paramount flick

Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman are among the all-star voice cast who will join her.

The movie is based on the personas and creations of artist Peyo, whose art will serve as the inspiration for the next endeavor.

Miller said, “The DNA in Peyo’s original drawings guides so many creative choices in the film,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

It serves as the model for the kind of movie I want to make. The comics served as the inspiration for the film’s lively, carefree animation style, which makes extensive use of squash and stretch. All of the action lines and thinking bubbles from the comics will appear in the film.

At a surprise visit on Day Four of CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April 2023, Rihanna revealed that she would be providing the voice of Smurfette in the Paramount film.

The Grammy winner joked, as Variety reported, “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but it didn’t work out,” following her announcement that she would be providing the voice of Smurfette in the live-action movie.

Variety claims that the forthcoming movie will center on the straightforward question, “What is a Smurf?” as its “central” topic.

The Smurfs from Columbia Pictures, which made about $563 million at the movie office in 2011, is one of the big-screen adaptations of the narrative. Stars like Neil Patrick Harris and Katy Perry, who played Smurfette, contributed their voices.

Smurfs: The Lost Village, a revival featuring a new cast, debuted in 2017 after a sequel with unfavorable reviews was published two years later in 2013.

Rainn Wilson and Joe Manganiello were among the other celebrities who contributed to the film, with Demi Lovato, who voiced Smurfette.
