Globally, Caribbean queens rule! Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are back together.
The 38-year-old “Chun-Li” rapper and 33-year-old Fenty designer collaborated on Rihanna’s 2010 single “Raining Men” before meeting Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, the couple’s son, and Rihanna’s boyfriend, rapper A$AP Rocky, in a picture.
On her Instagram, Minaj shared a picture of the entire group from the get-together. The photo shows Minaj’s son perched on her lap as the two couples sat side by side on a couch. With her arm around her, Rihanna leans in to embrace her partner, grinning.
In a subsequent post, she and Rihanna practice different camera angles while posing for a video. Rihanna then exclaims, “Caribbean things, you know what I’m sayin’?”
Although the two artists haven’t put out a song together in a long time, they did once work together on the 2011 single “Fly,” which was featured on Minaj’s successful album Pink Friday after Rihanna’s “Raining Men” the year before.
MTV News reports that in a 2010 Facebook post, Minaj referred to the “Fly” singer as “one of my absolute faves.”
“I had long wanted to collaborate with Rihanna. Minaj then spoke about Rihanna’s Barbadian origins and her Trinidadian ancestry, saying, “I’m very proud of her accomplishments; especially since she was born on an island like me.”
She continued, “This song is about female empowerment.” However, it’s not limited to women alone. It talks about taking flight and reaching new heights while facing every hardship that arises.
Celebrating the release of her album ANTI five years ago, Rihanna has been busy with her massively successful Fenty brand and her new romance with 32-year-old A$AP Rocky, who she was originally believed to be dating in November.
Despite having been close friends for years and working together on her 2013 Diamonds World Tour, which featured A$AP Rocky as the opening act for her U.S. tour dates, the two did not formally announce their relationship until this year.
A$AP For GQ’s June/July 2021 cover story, Rocky referred to his partner as “my lady” and “the love of my life,” telling the publication that being in a relationship is “so much better.”
“Amazingly improved once you found ‘the One.'” She is probably equivalent to a million of the others,” he clarified.
In August, a source told PEOPLE that the friendship “evolved” into a “solid romance.”
A music source stated, “They already knew and respected each other and it has just grown from there,” adding that their friendship provided them with “a great foundation.”
“They loved to laugh and have a blast together before they even dated,” said a source. “All of that makes for a solid romance now.”
