“Let me go ahead and take this “L”” – Dwayne Johnson Embraces Razzie Win with Champion Spirit: The People’s Champ Takes It in Stride

Even though reviewers gave the television show Baywatch a lot of unfavorable reviews when it first aired back in 1989, it quickly became a pop culture sensation. The show ran until 2001, and nearly 20 years later, it served as the basis for the 2017 Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron movie of the same nаme. Sadly, although being regarded as a commercial triumph, the movie got bad reviews from critics.

As if the unfavorable reviews weren’t enough, the movie gained notoriety after receiving a nomination for either the Razzies or the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards. But Dwayne Johnson quickly put an end to the jeers when he took to social media to graciously collect the prize on behalf of the movie.

Dwayne Johnson Accepted the Razzie Award With Graciousness

The 38th Golden Raspberry Awards, which honored the worst movies of 2017, took place on March 03, 2018. There were five total nominations for Seth Gordon’s Baywatch, including Worst Picture and Worst Actor. The movie took home the prize in the “The Razzie Nominee So Rоtten You Loved It” category, out of the five for which it was nominated.

Rоtten Tomatoes was the one who funded and established this new category. Dwayne Johnson commented about winning a Razzie on Instagram after accepting the award, and he unexpectedly found humor in the whole situation. The actor began his video by wishing the year’s Oscar candidates luck before declaring that he was also “bringing home the gold.” The gold in question was not an Oscar, but rather a Razzie for the $117 million box office Һit Baywatch. He said,

“I’m so excited and proud of my friends who received nominations tonight; I’m rooting for you all to win the gold.” In addition, I recently learned that I will also be winning big tonight, which excites me. No, a Razzie instead of an Oscar—maybe one day.”

Johnson acknowledged that Baywatch was created “with the best of intentions,” even though things didn’t turn out as planned. “I humbly and graciously accept my Razzie,” he continued.

He wrote in the video’s caption,

“All right, let me take this ‘L’ for Baywatch right on the chin. Win some, lose some—that’s just the nature of love, after all.

That was one respectable way to accept an award such as the Razzie. He isn’t The People’s Champ for nothing, though!

The Moment Dwayne Johnson Made Light of Baywatch

Johnson returned to the squared circle with an amazing performance on the January 1st broadcast of WWE Raw. The actor-turned-wrestler challenged wrestler Jinder Mahal upon his unexpecteԀ arrival, making lighthearted fun of his own movie, Baywatch, in the process.

He said (according to People),

“The Rock would probably assume that you’re upset because you’re not funny and nobody likes you. Indeed, if you were any of The Rock’s films, you would most likely be Baywatch.

Johnson immediately said, “Nobody else did either,” to Mahal’s remark, “Thankfully I’ve never seen Baywatch.” The actor seemed to be aware that comedy is always the best medicine for dealing with difficult times in life—in this case, the critical failure of his picture.
