The Golden State Warriors will consider their options going forward with Klay Thompson now that their season is ended. Thompson is a free agent who will start the 2024 NBA Offseason. Sam Amick of The Athletic reports that a competitor of the Warriors has Thompson in their sights.

In an article published on April 17, Amick stated, “League sources tell The Athletic that the Dallas Mavericks are worth watching as a possible suitor as well.”

Amick also mentioned that during talks, Grayson Allen’s contract extension with the Suns will come up.

The decision made by the Phoenix Suns to award Grayson Allen a four-year, $70 million contract on Monday also becomes a pertinent piece of information, as Thompson’s team will undoubtedly bring up the fact that the 28-year-old role player recently signed a contract for an average of $17.5 million per year.

Even without Thompson on their books, the Warriors still have a large payroll. For the 2024–25 season, they will pay $175 million; however, they have the option to reject Chris Paul’s $30 million contract.

The Mavericks are a postseason team aiming for a title. They are also a younger team than the Warriors, with Luka Doncic serving as their lead player. If Thompson decided to join the Mavericks, they wouldn’t need to rely on him to score because they have Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

It’s another story how Thompson ended up with the Mavericks. For the 2024–25 campaign, they will have over $174 million in wages.
