John Cena is commenting on the ongoing rivalry between fellow WWE wrestler Dwayne Johnson and his Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel.
Dax Shepard, 49, brought up the long-running suspicions that Johnson, 51, and Diesel, 56, made for “a tough pairing” after Johnson joined the Fast series with 2011’s Fast Five, during Cena’s appearance on the April 8 episode of Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“There are undoubtedly rumors regarding that. That is something I cannot dispute. You have two really ambitious, alpha individuals,” Cena retorted. “You get two, there can only be one.”
Between 2011 and 2019, Johnson costarred in five Fast & Furious movies as Luke Hobbs. Diesel’s Dom Toretto was initially introduced by Johnson in Fast Five as an opponent, but in the subsequent flicks, the two work together. There have been rumors for a while that Johnson and Diesel don’t get along behind the scenes since Johnson called out his “male costars” in a now-deleted 2016 Instagram post. Johnson had a brief appearance in the previous year’s Fast X, but he later said in 2021 that he would no longer be a part of the franchise.
As Dom’s estranged brother Jakob Toretto in 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga, Cena himself joined the franchise. He mentioned that during his wrestling career, he had experience navigating complex circumstances when discussing his position in the series on Armchair Expert.
“Man, you gotta remember I got dropped into a locker room where [we have] generational vets,” Cena replied. “What did your father do? He wrestled.”What did your grandfather do?” “He wrestled.”I’ve been there, I know the space, and I simply kind of adjust to the situation.”
“Someone is inviting me into their family and into their house. And there is one IP that has nine installments and it’s an action movie; it’s rarefied air, he continued, regardless of how they physically compare to other humans.” “At the very least, there has to be respect for that.”
Fast X’s climаx seems to feature Cena’s character’s deаth. Johnson’s brief appearance in the movie’s credits sequence has opened the door for a more significant comeback in the 11th and reported final episode, which is scheduled for release in 2025.
Regarding the cоnflict between Diesel and Johnson, Cena continued, saying that he never forgot that, even as an actor in the Fast & Furious movies, he was only “a guest” in that universe.
“Getting into the sandbox is not my goal. That’s not how I roll,” he remarked. “I’m grateful for what you’ve given me, I just want to be be the best firetruck I can.”
