The Wait Is Over: Billie Eilish Unveils Upcoming Album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’

Billie Eilish has formally revealed the details of her third full-length album, as anticipated: In an emoji-filled social media post, she stated, “‘ҺIT ME HARD AND SOFT,’ MY THIRD ALBUMMMMMMMMMMMMM COMES OUT MAY 17THHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH,” alongside a picture of the album’s cover, which shows Eilish swimming toward an open white door while submerged. It’s odd to be writing this at this moment, and I’m both nervous and excited. I want to offer it to you all at once; I’m not into singles. We are really proud of this record, Finneas and me, and we can’t wait for you to hear it. I adore you, adore you adore you.

A fresh image of Eilish submerged, like the album cover, was released alongside the official press release for the album:

A press release that accompanied Eilish’s post provides at least some context for the album’s contentious title, which is all capitals like her previous albums rather than the all-lowercase style she has utilized recently: “The album does precisely what its title implies: it defies trends and bends genres while hitting you with a mix of tender and strong lyrics and sounds. “ҺIT ME HARD AND SOFT” transports listeners to a wide range of emotions as it travels over a massive and expansive aural world. Billie Eilish, who has won numerous Grammys and Academy Awards, excels at it, further solidifying her status as the most inventive composer of our time.

Eilish and her brother Finneas, who is also a musician, wrote and produced the record, as is customary.

In line with Eilish’s recent remarks regarding the environmental wastefulness of physical products like vinyl, the announcement also states that the album will be accessible on all digital platforms. It further states, “In a continued effort to minimize waste and combat climate change; across all physical formats in limited variants on the same day, with the same track-listing and using 100% recyclable materials.” Please check the official website for additional details on all sustainable practices related to the release of this album. Eilish has been talking about the album for a few weeks now, and last week she teased it with a number of billboards in global metropolises. The Grammy and Oscar-winning musician’s nаme was absent from the billboards, but her well-known “blohsh” sign and what look to be lyrics with phrases like “Did I cross the line?,” “I try to live in black and white,” and “She’s the headlights, I’m the deer” were there.

In 2021, Eilish’s team employed a similar strategy to hint at the release of “Happily Ever After,” her second full-length album.

Although Eilish and her brother, Finneas, who also serves as their musical collaborator, have been touring and releasing other material, they have not released a new album since July of 2021. Instead, they have spent the majority of the past few months on a rigorous awards campaign promoting “What Was I Made For?,” their song from the Һit movie “Barbie” and its soundtrack.

Late in February, Eilish said that her recently released album has undergone mastering, the final stage prior to release on streaming platforms.

Writing “What Was I Made For?” reportedly broke through a creative block that she and Finneas had been having with the content for Eilish’s third complete album.

“A complete album of music is on the way,” Eilish announced in September. “We’re nearing completion, so it’s not quite ready for release, but it’s getting there and it’s really exciting.”
