This season has been nothing short of spectacular for Mainoo, who made his Premier League debut in November and went on to excel for England during the last international break.
The teen’s stаtus аs аn integrаl pаrt оf Erik ten Hаg’s teаm hаs grоwn since his unexpecteԀ prоmоtiоn tо the EnglаnԀ nаtiоnаl teаm cаme аs а result оf Gаreth Sоuthgаte’s аbоut-fаce.
The 1-0 loss to Brazil was Mainoo’s first international match for England. He went on to shine in the 2-2 draw with Belgium at Wembley. The 18-year-old Mainoo made such an impression that many experts predict he will start for England in the European Championships in Germany this summer.
Carragher, a former England defender, has also praised Mainoo’s growth and stated his willingness to “take” the midfielder back to Liverpool.
“I think I’d probably take the young kid, Mainoo,” Carragher remarked on The Overlap when asked which Old Trafford star he would most want to see play at Anfield.I think he has superstar looks and has the potential to become a true superstar, and I think his age is the main reason why.
Before announcing that Mainoo would be his top pick, Carragher also discussed whether Marcus Rashford would be a better option than Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.
A member of the United team who Carragher claimed was “trying to think who else is better playing in their position” was also mentioned.Perhaps Rashford, because after a new manager takes over at Liverpool this summer, that’s a position you might consider.
I lean to the left because, while I do not think [Luis] Diaz is exceptional, I do think he is good. Thus, it may be a job. My guess is that Mainoo will play in the middle of the field. Just because of his age, I would choose him.
Both Southgate, the head coach of the Three Lions, and Erik ten Hag, the manager of Mainoo’s club, were impressed with his play for England.
“It was excellent in my opinion, but we are not shocked,” Ten Hag spoke. “We have witnessed his abilities and witnessed his remarkable ability to rapidly adjust to high levels.”It seems completely organic. For him, we are incredibly thrilled, and we can’t help but feel a twinge of pride. The fact that a Manchester United academy product makes it onto the national squad at such a young age is fantastic.
That speaks volumes about the entire club. Because he did it, I believe it was first and foremost for him.
Manchester United’s return match against Brentford ended in a 1-1 tie, and Mainoo started the match but didn’t have much of an impact. Ten Hag’s team departed west London with a point. On Thursday, United will play Chelsea.
