Xabi Alonso is reportedly being courted by Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, according to the Bavarian head. He asserts that Alonso has “proven he can be a coach for the big time.”
Uli Hoeness, CEO of Bayern Munich, has stated that Xabi Alonso is being courted by Real Madrid, Liverpool, and other German giants to be their next manager.
Alonso, who is now 42 years old, had a stellar playing career, earning 114 caps for Spain and playing for clubs like Real Sociedad, Liverpool, Real, and Bayern.
In October 2022, he took over as coach of Bayer Leverkusen after three years of coaching the B team for Real Sociedad. Since then, he has won 50 of his 75 games in charge. But he has led Leverkusen to unprecedented heights this season, and they now lead the Bundesliga by ten points over Bayern. The Black and Reds are aiming to break Bayern’s eleven-year winning streak in the German top flight.
Alonso has become a European sought man after leading Leverkusen to an undefeated record in 38 games across all competitions. His side is still in the German Cup and Europa League. After a disappointing season, Bayern announced Thomas Tuchel’s departure in the summer, while Liverpool, whose nine-year tenure as manager is coming to an end under Jurgen Klopp, are also in need of a new manager.
Apparently Alonso has already had fruitful preliminary discussions with Bayern, and both teams are keeping an eye on their former midfield lynchpin. This information comes courtesy of Sky Germany.Even though Hoeness is an honorary president at Bayern, he has stated that both his team and Liverpool are eager to sign Alonso. He has also stated that Real Madrid, another of Hoeness’s old clubs, is ‘working’ on a deal with Alonso.
Hoeness stated to the German news portal Ran Sport that Alonso has demonstrated his ability to be a coach on a grand scale.
It is in the works by clubs like as FC Bayern, Leverkusen, Real Madrid, and Liverpool.
Despite Carlo Ancelotti signing a new deal until the summer of 2026 in December, rumors have circulated that Alonso could join Real.
The Reds are hoping that their new athletic director Richard Hughes can aid them in their pursuit of him, but either way, the competition for his services is sure to be an exciting one.
When he signed Andoni Iraola to the Cherries last summer, the former Bournemouth chief collaborated with Inaki Ibanez, who is Alonso’s agent.
Since Alonso’s set £12 million leave clause in his Leverkusen contract doesn’t come into play until the summer of 2025, any transaction will not be cheap. His compensation price is expected to be between £12.8 million and £21.3 million.Regardless, Hoeness maintained that Bayern would not turn away any managerial candidates due to possible compensation fees.
In addition, he mentioned that very few coaches who are in question are either unemployed or on vacation.
Telling them that FC Bayern is the standard isn’t simple.
Before their Champions League quarterfinal match against Arsenal next month, Bayern will play their first game back after the international break on March 30 against rivals Borussia Dortmund.
