The last time they won a league match was in December, a 2-0 triumph over Fulham under Marco Silva; so, Kompany’s squad was eager to start their match against David Moyes’ squad on a high note. In the eleventh minute, Fofana set the struggling team up for an unexpected lead in east London with a long-range strike after playing a one-two with the other defender.

Due to the lack of energy in the London Stadium, the Hammers got off to a poor start. With a two-game winning streak in the Premier League under their belts, Moyes’ squad entered the showcase in a pursuit of a playoff position. They had previously defeated Brentford and Everton. After Fofana scored, West Ham were completely shut down. The Ivorian, who became a club member in January, breezed through two obstacles before unleashing a devastating strike.

There was no way Alphonse Areola could have stopped his arrow as it sailed into the upper right corner. Fofana has scored three goals in his three Premier League appearances since joining the Clarets from Chelsea. The goal seemed to invigorate Kompany’s team, as they cruised past West Ham’s press with relative ease. They played a superb defensive half, allowing Moyes’ team very little opportunities.

Near the end of the first half, Jacob Bruun Larsen had a free-kick that Areola easily saved. But the Clarets would lead 2-0 at halftime.

The West Ham fans were yelled at by Burnley’s Konstantinos Mavropanos, who finished off a miserable first half by putting the ball into his own net after receiving it from Josh Cullen.

Nevertheless, West Ham managed to claw their way back into the match, as Lucas Paqueta scored a goal just one minute after the restart. Danny Ings scored a late equalizer to give his side a chance to steal a win from Burnley.
