When it comes to cars, Champagne Papi started at the bottom with an Acura and now he’s here…
Aubrey “Drake” Graham, a Canadian artist, rapper, record producer, and businessman, is estimated to be worth a staggering $150 million. Over the last ten years, Forbes has included him in their Hip Hop Cash Kings list each year. He has more No. 1 hits than Michael Jackson. Though he’s not as wealthy as hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, he’s doing alright.
But enormous wealth also comes with great responsibility, so Drake manages his finances carefully. And it goes without saying that being thrifty is the only way to earn a moniker like “Champagne Papi,” one of many. Yes, he periodically hosts a low-key party, goes shopping for new clothes, and donates to charities, but he also indulges in one major indulgence. In honor of Drizzy’s birthday, which is the big 3-4, we thought it would be fun to revisit some of his best-known car songs. beginning at the base
Acura TSX (2004)
According to legend—and by that, we mean Instagram—Drake’s first vehicle was a Chevrolet Malibu, although it wasn’t a very fancy one. His was a front-wheel-drive, fifth-generation midsize car that was well-liked by Florida’s senior community due to its unremarkable looks and marginally better-than-average dependability. But after landing the part of wheelchair-bound Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, Drake bought his second “first car,” which was equally unimpressive. Another midsize, largely dependable Japanese production vehicle that “goes about its business so smoothly and so silkily that precision could be its middle name” was the Acura TSX, which gained some notoriety along the way. It makes sense why Young Pablito relinquished his nice money, a memory he cherishes. He remembers in “Underground Kings,” “I was pushing myself to get something that I deserve, with fame on my mind and my girl on my nerves.” That was in the Acura era long ago. Fun times.
Bugatti Veyron – Sang Noir Edition (2010)
Switching from an Acura to a Bugatti Veyron hypercar is a significant trade-up. The Bugatti Type 57S Atlantic from the mid-1930s served as inspiration for this 2010 $2.2 million limited edition “Sang Noir” (Black Blood) model. Seems costly until you consider the top-line specs: an 8.0-liter quad turbocharged W16 engine producing 987 horsepower, 62 mph acceleration in 2.5 seconds, and a maximum speed of 253 mph were all possible. In Canada, Drake was the only one with one. While Justin Bieber was only 16 years old, he was already quite popular. But 6God quickly became tired of it and listed it for sale in 2014. Perhaps still affected by the encounter he wrote about in “Child’s Play,” he wrote, “You wildin’, you super childish.” You use my Bugatti to go to CVS for Kotex. The concerned drugstore declined to comment on the claim or confirm it.
Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible (2010)
Drake remembers his early, less prosperous days in the music video for “Started From The Bottom,” where he is shown rapping in all white while standing next to an icy-white Bentley Continental GTC in the snow. But Drake would never act so carelessly in real life. Just think of the cleaning expenses! Therefore, Papi Champù owned a Supersports version, which at the time was the quickest convertible Bentley had ever made and could speed from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and finally hit 202mph, rather than risk having his vehicle or his attire tarnished. Also, the interior was black, which made cleaning considerably simpler.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (2010)
The SLR was a Mercedes-Benz (with McLaren) mash-up, with the initials standing for “Sport Leicht Rennsport” (Sport Light Racing), similar to one of Drake’s creative partnerships. Because Mercedes and McLaren were Formula One partners and the SLR (created as a successor to McLaren’s F1) was produced from 2003 to 2010, the union was formed. In a far-off episode of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson claimed that during the car’s development, the British engineers at McLaren claimed the SLR had the sound of a Spitfire, but the Germans at Mercedes countered that it had the sound of a Messerschmitt. They were both wrong, as Clarkson pointed out, saying it sounded like “the god of thunder gargling with nails.” Drake hasn’t expressed a view as of yet. However, he did post a few gang signs on social media while sitting on the bonnet. Word.
Brabus 850 (2015)
The Mercedes S-Class was originally introduced in North America in 2015 and was a beast in the Brabus form. This customized vehicle had a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produced 839 horsepower and was capable of reaching a top speed of 217 mph, which would have made it the world’s fastest production coupé with all-wheel drive. A wicked and hazardous daily trip that would make you laugh now and grieve later if you weren’t careful.
Rolls-Royce Wraith (2015)
The most potent and agile vehicle the luxury brand has ever built is the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Its 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine, gorgeous two-suicide-door design, and quarter-of-a-million-pound price tag give owners an incredible amount of car for their money—2.4 tonnes, to be exact. Drake dressed all black, even making an appearance in “Back To Back,” one of his diss compositions directed at Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. “I played AR-AB while driving here in the Wraith. I’m not sure what exactly infuriated you all. However, I suppose I must do this in order to make you all rap.
Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman (2015)
The modern Mercedes S600 Pullman was meant for CEOs, MVPs, and hip-hop royalty, while the original model was meant for rock stars, tyrants, and war criminals—not necessarily in that order. You are unaware of its nature? Let Drake educate you: ” have never heard of the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman, which I recently acquired? You should search on Google. When we did as instructed, we were informed that the Pullman version of the 21-foot S-Class limousine, which was 100 mm longer than the ordinary model and had a 6.0-liter V12 engine, “resulted in a tangible increase in interior room.” Additionally, it cost $600,000. That’s a lot—I’m not sure how much it works out per millimeter.
Ferrari LaFerrari (2016)
A few years back, Travis Scott made the decision to buy a new Ferrari LaFerrari for his then-girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. She was overjoyed, but she was also in a rare owners’ club because there have only ever been 499 produced. Drake evidently picked up his about the same period, indicating that he is a member. But there was one big distinction between Heartbreak Drake’s and Kylie’s 950 horsepower hybrid V12 hypercar: the latter could really fly. (Shhh, keep this from Kylie) Drake flew an inflated replica of his yellow LaFerrari during his performances. Kylie is unaware that it wasn’t the real thing.)
McLaren 675LT (2016)
Drake’s McLaren 675LT (Long Tail) is essentially an homage to McLaren’s 1997 endurance racer, a more potent, lightweight limited-series car designed specifically for the racetrack that raises the bar on aerodynamics. It can accelerate to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, 124 mph in an almost unfathomable 7.9 seconds, and 205 mph when it’s all over. Its weight of 1,320 kg is 100 less than that of McLaren’s 650 S, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 542 horsepower per tonne. Drake is certainly aware of all of that, but it’s unlikely that the statistics disturb him too much. 852,000 is the figure that Young Frankie Geechi Liberachi was more worried about because it represents the quantity of his album Views that were sold in the US in its first week of availability. He bought the 675LT for himself because of this.
Lamborghini Aventador LP-700-4 Roadster (2016)
Bruce Wayne, the billionaire of Gotham City, would have to ask Alfred to have a 6.5-liter V12, 700-bhp Lamborghini Aventador Roadster built for him if one didn’t already exist. Drake purchased his from Canadian auto customizer Driving Emotions Toronto, but it does. He even included a lyric about it in “Views,” saying that his “Lamborghini got me feelin’ like Christian Bale,” because it resembles a Batmobile so much. I also never compromise my morals in order to increase ticket sales. He also gave YG permission to use the Lambo for the music video for the Drake-featured song “Why You Always Hatin’?” Drake could rap along, after all, if he was going to lend you his $350,000 vehicle, right?
Bentley Mulsanne (2017)
All those high horse-powered Ferraris and Lamborghinis are a lot of fun, but sometimes Francisco Mandarin likes to sit back and cruise in understated, super-luxe style. The Bentley Mulsanne is a £240,000 dream machine that is magnificent to drive, and to be driven in. It is a fabulous four-door flagship befitting of a hip-hop elder statesman. Drake must be getting older…
Devel Sixteen (2018)
Does Wheelchair Jimmy actually own the Devel Sixteen? Well, who knows… but we have included it because he just might. The preposterously powerful and mythical Devel Sixteen features a quad turbo 12.3-litre V17, produces more than 5,000bhp, costs nearly $2m and is claimed to have a top speed of more than 320mph. Key word: “claimed”. Can it really go that fast? Is it a genuine hypercar or just hype? We will have to wait to see the evidence…
Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Laudaulet (2019)
Another “does he or doesn’t he own one?” entry. We definitely want to believe he does. This all-terrain limited edition is one of only 99 G-Class SUVs created by Mercedes-Maybach and features an AMG V12 biturbo engine and all the luxurious fixtures and fittings you’d expect from a 4×4 worth a reported $1.8m. This is some serious hotline bling right here.
Mansory Rolls-Royce Phantom (2020)
Drake’s Mansory Rolls-Royce Phantom is last but certainly not least. Drake’s Roller is a bespoke one-of-a-kind edition that Tony Bet customized. According to Mansory, the color is named after the citron fruit, which is also referred to as Buddha’s hand in Bushukan. It is black and yellow. The fruit is a symbol of longevity, satisfaction, and happiness in China. Furthermore, it communicates the car’s elite status and is equipped with an OVO owl—a reference to Drizzy Hendrix’s record label—instead of the Spirit of Ecstacy’s retractable emblem. Does this make him a twit-twoo or a total baller? You make the decision. In any case, it’s all a part of God’s design.
