After joining Borussia Dortmund, Ian Maatsen wasted little time getting to work. Nominations for Bundesliga Rookie of the Month have been extended to the Dutchman in just his first month on the job.
Maatsen made his Bundesliga debut against Darmstadt less than 24 hours after arriving from Chelsea, and he contributed to Dortmund’s 3-0 victory.
Maatsen has established himself as the starting left back after filling in for Julian Ryerson and Ramy Bensebaini. His performance in the last third reminds one of Raphaël Guerreiro.
Against FC Köln, Maatsen helped fellow countryman Donyell Malen in Dortmund’s second game he had played in. The 21-year-old has started every game for BVB since joining from Chelsea, accounting for all 90 minutes in four matches.
Maatsen, however, is competing for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month Award in January with some very distinguished company.Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and Maximilian Beier of Hoffenheim were also nominated this month. While Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen was selected Rookie of the Month for August, September, October, and November, Simons was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for December.
Even though Mauricio Pochettino can save Chelsea from trouble, he needs answers quickly
Chelsea supporters finally lost it with Mauricio Pochettino, Todd Boehly, and Clearlake’s Stamford Bridge reconstruction on this day.
After their most recent humiliating loss, the fans booed and demanded the return of previous owner Roman Abramovich and manager Jose Mourinho.
Adding to Pochettino’s already heavy load, Thiago Silva’s wife Belle demanded “change” at Chelsea on yet another chaotic day.
Even if things are “not good enough” and “nobody is safe” at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino apologised after the game in an effort to calm down the irate fans.
With only fifteen games remaining, Chelsea has little chance of rescuing their predicament after Matheus Cunha scored a hat trιck to condemn them to a loss that dropped them to the bottom half of the league.
In addition to expressing his desire to “move on,” Pochettino urged the faithful supporters of his team to continue supporting him. Many, though, are beginning to doubt.
Even while he is not in dаnger of losing his job anytime soon, Pochettino still has Chelsea’s support. In contrast, Graham Potter was informed last season that his position was safe until he was fired in April of last year.
It would be another admission of failure on the part of co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali to bring in a new manager after they’ve already gone through five in 18 months.
However, Pochettino must discover solutions—and do it promptly. Despite assembling a team costing £1 billiоn, he is not even close to maximizing their potential.
No matter your opinion on the club’s transfer policy or the accuracy of that statistic in representing the team’s talent, Chelsea shouldn’t be this close to the drop zone instead of the Champions League spots.
We have to wonder if these players aren’t good enough or if they’re being intentionally set up to fail.
The entire back four was exposed, Wolves’ midfield controlled £200 million combo Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku was unnoticed, Raheem Sterling was inefficient and booed off the field upon substitution, and the entire аttаck looked unfocused. The home team’s carelessness in losing possession in critical situations led to most of Wolves’ goals, and Chelsea appeared frozen in terror.
“It raises the question of whether these players are good enough or if they are being set up to fail”
Chelsea’s youth and lack of experience make them look helpless against аggressive opponents week after week. They have the most yellow cards in the Premier League this season and seem to be the ones who cross the line whenever they try to figҺt.
After last week’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool, Chelsea’s season may be defined by their matchup with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final at the month’s conclusion.
Ever since the ownership changed in 2023, there has been hardly any movement. After failing to implement their revolutionary plan for a successful club, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who are both proprietors and co-sporting directors of Chelsea, are also under examination.
However, Pochettino is the most amenable to replacement since he only signed a two-year deal last summer. Everything is still salvageable, but he needs to start doing better immediately.
Despite the pressure to lead Chelsea to victory at Wembley, Pochettino will do his best to keep speculation about his future out of the team’s preparations.
