The song received a lot of positive reviews as well, and it was listed on many year-end lists in periodicals.

For their work on the song, Eilish and O’Connell are nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, including Record and Song of the Year, in addition to Best Song Written for Visual Media.

In an Apple 1 interview with Zane Lowe, the singer discussed working on the song and revealed that her original goal was to write a song that was inspired only by Barbie.

“I never gave myself a second thought while I was writing.” She claimed, “I wrote about how I thought she would feel after watching this movie and meeting this character.”

Eilish later acknowledged, nevertheless, that the song turned out to be more of a personal endeavor than she had first thought.

“I have this habit of creating things that I don’t even realize I’m writing for myself,” the woman remarked.

“The following week, I was playing it in the car all day and playing it for everybody,” the hitmaker continued. “This is exactly how I feel,” I thought to myself. Furthermore, I didn’t meаn to sаy it at all.”

It was, in fact, the most surreal encounter of my life. “I realized that I was writing about myself, but I was approaching it from a third-person perspective,” she said.
