Another move by Andrey Santos! Chelsea loan out Brazilian sensation to Strasbourg following disappointing loan with Nottingham Forest
Andrey Santos, who was recalled from Nottingham Forest last month, will be loaned to Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, according to Chelsea.
The summer transfer to west London for the 19-year-old midfielder was ultimately a loan so he could get some first-team experience. But it never happened while Steve Cooper was in charge of Forest, and the Brazilian was sent packing in January. Chelsea has confirmed Santos’ six-month loan to Strasbourg of the French club, marking his second move of the season.
“Andrey Santos, a midfielder for Chelsea, has signed a loan deal with RC Strasbourg of France until the end of the season,” the Blues announced in an official statement. The 19-year-old will continue to hone his skills in Ligue 1, after spending the first half of the season at Nottingham Forest. At the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament in Venezuela, Andrey is leading the Brazil Under-23s as their captain. He is a full international. Thank you for the opportunity, Andrey!
Chelsea paid a hefty price to sign the promising young midfielder in the summer. He was widely expected to be a star for Brazil’s national team after his breakout performance in the U20 South American Championship. While at Forest, Santos was only given 97 minutes of playing time due to the additions of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Cesare Casadei, which Ԁeprive him of vital game time in west London. Santos will not be used again until next season, in contrast to Casadei, who was recalled last month and made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Wednesday.
As part of the BlueCo partnership, Chelsea’s American owners acquired Strasbourg in June 2023. Another young Blue, Angelo Gabriel, is now on loan at the Ligue 1 side from Chelsea until the season ends.
Santos definitely has more of an emphasis on getting game time this season than on playing backup at Stamford Bridge, even though Mauricio Pochettino is missing Lavia and Ugochukwu owing to probable long-term ailments. Once his Brazilian national team has advanced to the knockout stage of their pre-Olympic tournament—with a group game to spare—he will join up with Strasbourg.
