Darwin Nunez outscores Mohamed Salah and Liverpool in the 2023–24 season with a spectacular first-time volley

On Sunday, Darwin Nunez of Liverpool scored twice against Bournemouth, surpassing Mohamed Salah to reach the remarkable 2023-24 milestone.

After scoring twice on Sunday to help Liverpool beаt Bournemouth 4-0, the Uruguayan striker became the first player in the current 2023–24 Premier League season to reach a milestone: ten goals scored and ten assists provided across all competitions.

In the 49th minute, he put his team on the board with an exquisite first-time volley after latching onto a cross from Joe Gomez at the back post. In ιnjury time, he doubled his tally.

Though Nunez joins a select group of players who have scored 10 goals and assisted on 10 more this season, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah remаins the leading scorer in the Premier League with 14 goals and 8 assists. Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa comes in second, with nine goals and ten assists. City striker Erling Haaland has scored as many goals as Salah but has only assisted on four goals so far.

Jurgen Klopp’s team gained a five-point advantage over Manchester City with the victory over the Cherries. Following Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final match against Fulham, the Reds will face Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup on January 28.

Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota doubles send Liverpool five points clear at the top

Liverpool widened their lead in the Premier League to five points with a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, thanks to doubles from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the second half.

Without leading scorer Mohamed Salah, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had trouble getting off the mark at the Vitality Stadium.

However, after Jota scored a quick double, Nunez scored to break the tie early in the second session and then scored again in extra time.As second-place Manchester City had a weekend free, Liverpool took full advantage with a win on a rainy south coast afternoon, extending their unbeaten run to fourteen league matches.

Bournemouth, who are currently on a roll, were in it for much of the frantic match, but they were never really in dаnger and ultimately lost for just the second time in nine games.

Andoni Iraola’s hosts had a rough game, but it could have been much worse if Justin Kluivert had been sent off for a first-half challenge on Luis Diaz.

For the first time this season, Liverpool were back in top-flight action since New Year’s Day. However, their star player, Mohamed Salah, was out with a hamstring ιnjury he got while playing for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.Bournemouth started the game better, but they failed to trouble Alisson, and the Reds struggled to find their rhythm.

After settling into the game, Klopp’s squad finally had some significant territory.

Before Nunez and Diaz had long-range shots cleanly saved by Cherries goalkeeper Neto, Alexis Mac Allister missed the mark from long range.

In the 35th minute, Bournemouth, who had also gone three weeks without a league match, could finally exhale a sigh of relief as Kluivert evaded punishment by catching Diaz with a high, studs-up tackle.

In the 39th minute, the hosts’ first attempt at goal was a timid shot that Alisson saved. Just before halftime, Kluivert sent a dangerous low center that Christie was unable to convert.

Liverpool took advantage of some careless defense to get ahead just four minutes after the half ended, after a pretty dull first half that lacked any real opportunities.

Nunez firmly placed Ibrahima Konate’s cross-field pass into the bottom right corner after unmarked Curtis Jones chested it down. The ball subsequently went to Jota.

While gloating at home fans in the first half, Nunez was unfavorably likened to Andy Carroll, a former Liverpool striker, and he was also involved in his team’s second goal, which was scored in the 70th minute.

Chris Mepham, a defender for Bournemouth, had trouble keeping up with the strong Uruguayan striker, which set up Reds substitute Cody Gakpo, who pounced on the lost ball, set up Jota, who scored at the base of the right post.

Jota put an end to the Cherries’ chances of mounting a comeback in the space of nine minutes.

After receiving a pass from Premier League rookie Conor Bradley, the Portugal forward fumbled his first attempt, but he quickly put an end to the mocking cries by shooting low into the left corner.

In the 90th minute, David Brooks, who came on as a substitute for the Cherries, missed a wonderful opportunity to score a consolation goal.

Nunez, who scored the game-winning goal in their November Carabao Cup quarterfinal meeting, poured salt to Bournemouth’s wounds three minutes into extra time with a beautiful close-range strike, claiming the winner in the process.
