Jordan Henderson facing cash nightmare as Liverpool icon ‘hasn’t yet been paid’ in Saudi

Reportedly, since joining Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool during the summer transfer window, Jordan Henderson has not received payment. There is little to show for the midfielder’s time in the Saudi Pro League; he has grown restless in the Middle East and is about to join Ajax later this week.Over the summer, Liverpool restocked their midfield with a slew of new players, giving the position a much-needed boost. Some long-serving players were let go, including Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo.

After realizing they wouldn’t see any playing time at Anfield this season, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita were all sold, while Fabinho and Henderson were sold to Saudi Arabian clubs in order to generate revenue.

Despite Henderson’s best efforts, the pair has joined an increasing number of successful athletes who are ready to leave it all behind and play in the Middle East. The England international became dissatisfied with his situation in the Saudi Pro League very fast and entered this month’s transfer window planning to force a departure and go back to Europe.

After agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with Al Ettifaq, Henderson is now nearing a transfer to Ajax. The ex-Sunderland star took out a wage deferral, so he hasn’t received a dime since signing with the club six months ago, says The Telegraph.

While playing for Steven Gerrard’s team, the midfielder was due £350,000 weekly, but he decided to delay the payments.Supposedly, Henderson chose to postpone his payment so that he could temporarily return to the UK and play for England without worrying about the time constraints imposed on non-UK taxpayers.

Since Henderson’s stint in Saudi Arabia ended on the lowest possible note—after losing the respect of many when he initially went there—those close to the player are not expecting Al-Ettifaq to pay the midfielder the six months’ worth of compensation immediately.

The 33-year-old will get another chance to win over supporters at Ajax and ensure that he is still part of Gareth Southgate’s England roster for the upcoming European Championship. After agreeing to an 18-month deal with the club’s higher-ups, he is about to undergo a massive wage cut, earning £85,000 per week in the Eredivisie.
