At the 2024 Golden Globes, Star Wars legend Mark Hamill stands with Natalie Portman as Queen Amidala, delighting fans. “At last, I’ve met my mother!” “I’ve finally met my mother!”: Star Wars legend Mark Hamill beams at the 2024 Golden Globes while posing with Natalie Portman, who plays Queen Amidala.
At the Sunday Golden Globes, Star Wars legend Mark Hamill thrilled fans by striking up a photo with his on-screen mother Natalie Portman.
Upon meeting Portman, 42, backstage, the 72-year-old actor—who portrayed Jedi Luke Skywalker in six Star Wars movies—joked that he had “finally met his “mother.” Portman played Queen Padmé Amidala, the mother of Luke and Princess Leia in the three Star Wars prequels.
While Portman, who was nominated for May December’s Best Actress—Motion Picture Comedy or Musical—wowed in a sparkling sequin dress, Hamill looked dapper in a black velvet blazer, shirt, and tie.
After making his cinematic debut as Luke Skywalker in the 1977 original film, Mark went on to reprise the role in five more films: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1883), The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, the first in the trilogy, debuted in theaters in 1999 when Portman was just a teenager. Attack of the Clones and The Revenge of the Sith, the sequels, were later released.

She shared the screen with Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker, her tragically betrayed love who turned evil and became Darth Vader.
In contrast to their renowned forerunners, the prequel films were widely criticized by both reviewers and enthusiasts for falling short of the mark.
It was also criticized for its shoddy CGI work and Jar Jar Binks, the unlikeable comedy extraterrestrial.
Natalie’s career continued unaffected by the negative reviews for the films; she went on to feature in several successful movies such as Black Swan, Thor, Jackie, and Vox Lux.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning last year, Hamill stated that he saw no “reason” to play Luke Skywalker again, but he is still open to doing so.
‘I had my time, and that’s good,’ the actor said of playing the Force-enabled hero in an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning contributor Tracy Smith. “But that suffices.”
“So there’s always a chance that you could go back, even though you say you won’t?” Smith questioned.
You never say never, though. I simply don’t see why I should. To put it another way, Hamill responded, “I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore.”

Although Hamill stated last year that he sees no “reason” to play Luke Skywalker once more, he is nevertheless open to doing so (see 1977 picture).

Smith remarked, “You know that a lot of people out there would argue, ”They always need Luke,'” which made Hamill giggle.
Smith also inquired as to whether he had come to terms with being known as Luke Skywalker forever.
Yes. Well,’ replied Hamill, ‘I don’t give a damn. In all honesty, I never really thought I would be recognized for anything. All I wanted was to pursue my interests and earn a living. “Well, it could be worse,” I reasoned. At least Luke is a good man. I could become famous for being the best actor to portray Adolf Hitler, you know?
